See the Amnesty ad the FT haven’t the balls to run

Over 2,000 Amnesty International supporters donated to place this advert in the Financial Times, Metro and Evening Standard. Northcliffe House has many a vice but reluctance to accept cash is not one of them – the ad appears in their free papers today. But the FT pulled the ad at the last minute, presumably in fear of a libel suit – as @naomimc says, not just an indictment of the FT’s character but also an argument for urgent libel reform.

It feels good to volley an ad like this at a corporate adversary, but just gently reflect upon the feelings you are creating among Shell executives and shareholders. Shell doesn’t want the failures it caused in that region, but only guarded, defensive comments will result if any comments are forthcoming. Shell could do better, but how can we influence them to see our way? Read that book that has so much dust on it that it can no longer be relevant to our modern ways: “How to Win Friends and Influence People” Reflect upon how much important AI money was wasted here – would have been wasted even if the ad had run, because there is simmering hatred in the hearts of those many contributors to this ad.
